Chimney Service in Moorestown, New Jersey

Moorestown is an old Quaker town along Main Street with newer neighborhoods around it. We inspect its chimneys for free and write the price down before any work.

Moorestown's story starts in 1682, when John and Sarah Roberts became the first English-speaking residents, and the first Friends meeting house, built of logs, went up in 1700. The township itself was incorporated in 1922 from part of Chester Township. Its Main Street historic district, listed on the National Register in 1990, covers 47 acres with 351 contributing buildings, including the Friends School and meetinghouse, the Smith Mansion and Breidenhart. The 2020 census counted 21,355 residents, about two-thirds of them in the Moorestown-Lenola census area.

That history shows in the houses. Census figures (ACS 2024) put 21 percent of Moorestown homes before 1940, about double the Burlington County share, and the median home dates to 1969. Most homes are detached, about 15 percent are townhouses or twins, and 80 percent heat with utility gas. So the work runs from old brick chimneys near Main Street, to mid-century houses with a fireplace flue and a furnace flue side by side, to newer homes with gas fireplaces and direct vents.

Moorestown's historic preservation commission

Moorestown formed a Historic Preservation Commission after 2024 plans to demolish two homes on Main Street rallied residents, according to Preservation New Jersey (2025), and the township designated part of its downtown as a local historic district. The commission's draft design guidelines, published in 2025, describe review of exterior changes to properties in the district and to designated sites.

If your house is in or near the downtown district, check with the township before rebuilding, shortening or removing a chimney you can see from the street. We give you photos and a written scope to bring to the review. A National Register listing alone does not add local review; the local designation is what counts.

Older chimneys, newer heating systems

New Jersey's fire code says an unlined masonry chimney with open mortar joints shall be repaired or relined, and some older chimneys were built without one. When a furnace, boiler or water heater is replaced, the state also requires an F-370 chimney verification, which a homeowner can't sign, confirming the flue is lined and sized for the new appliance.

Our free inspection covers both questions. Typical prices: repointing $500 to $2,500, a liner for a new furnace or water heater $625 to $2,250, a stainless liner $1,500 to $5,000, and a wood-to-gas conversion $1,500 to $8,000.

FAQ

Moorestown chimney questions

Is my Moorestown house in the historic district?

Part of downtown around Main Street is a local historic district, and the township's Historic Preservation Commission reviews exterior changes there. Ask the township if you're not sure. Being inside the National Register district alone doesn't add local review.

Do I need an F-370 for a new furnace in Moorestown?

Yes. New Jersey requires the F-370 chimney verification when a furnace, boiler or water heater is replaced and on oil-to-gas conversions, and a homeowner can't sign it. Our free inspection covers the chimney check.

How much does chimney cleaning cost in Moorestown?

We price the cleaning at the free inspection, after we see the chimney and the buildup inside. Heavy creosote removal, if it's needed, typically runs $400 to $900. The price is written down before any work.

Can you convert my wood fireplace to gas?

Yes. A wood-to-gas conversion typically runs $1,500 to $8,000, a gas insert $2,000 to $8,000 and gas logs $500 to $2,000. New gas appliances go through your town's construction office, and your home then needs CO alarms near the bedrooms.
